The Body's Wisdom

Take a Mindful Monday moment to feel into this: your body* holds a lot of wisdom. Listen to it.

With a mindfulness practice we learn how to reconnect with our bodies so we can regulate our emotional states and respond to the world around us in ways that better serve us. Easier said than done when all we feel like doing is being as creative with the f bomb as we can be or running away from a situation. But what if we could pause in that kind of reaction and see what is happening in the body...is my heart rate up, am I feeling tight in the chest, am I hot...and can we take a mindful moment and notice. Can we take a breath? Can we take even more of a moment and ask ourselves what about this experience feels familiar? When else has it felt like this? Because our reaction to what’s happening now in the present moment is actually made up of a lot of past stuff. So can we come more present into the body right.now? That’s the practice for now. More is coming, wise one.

*PS- a note on “body.” We get a lot of negative, shame-inducing messages about our bodies so sometimes it can be difficult to feel through all of those messages or a trauma experience (and it may take some work to heal that first). The practice is turning this body awareness inward. To the landscape within that no one else gets a say about — but our very own wise selves. Tune into that. It’s this one precious body, your precious body, you’ve been given to experience life through. We can take back our right to sense into it.
